Kinja'd!!!

Say you had an FR-S or a BRZ and an extra $10,000 sitting in the bank from a few years of saving for your dream toy, how would you set it up?

Personally I'd take her and toss on a mild turbo, split it to duals running out the back running to two 3.5" tips, some coilovers and some gram lite 57dr's. Pretty close to going over that $10k but worth it.

New wheels 17x7 with snow tires to stay in stock SCCA class
Membership and race fees
Spend the rest on week long rally school
Do all the Rallycross

Track tires and a couple driving schools....anything left over would go to fix stuff I break.

I haven't researched the aftermarket hardly at all, so I'll be vague:

Firm suspension set up for grip, stiffening and bracing, light+strong+ wide wheels, extremely soft, sticky tires, performance brake pads (maybe Carbotech XP8), one-piece racing seats, and maybe an exhaust or header just for sound.

Yes, I want the engine stock.

no idea on the price, but a Crawford BRZ making 400hp sounds like a dream.

Oh good!

Cusco 3X race coilovers $4,875

A set of good wheels and tires. Say $2,000 for both?

AP Racing Competition Brake Syste m $2,599. That leaves plenty of cash left over to do engine work. I'd keep it N/A and work on getting it to flow freely and rev higher. Cams, port the heads, headers, etc...

Those wheels and then:

-red wrap over taillights
-ducktail spoiler
-performance brake pads / fluid
-perfromance -yet not too loud- exhaust

And the rest of the money would go to trackdays / road trips.

Either engine swap to a LS or a 2JZGTE. Then put rocket bunny's kit on it (the top picture you posted). Top it all off with some nice wheels, moderate drop, and some non hellaflush functional camber on the front wheels (-1 degree on front, 0 on back perhaps).

Stiffening the body, replacing the tires with some high performance tires sized up a bit, upgrade the brake pads and rotors/brace the master cylinder, and boosting the thing (probably the Innovate Motorsports kit or more crazy Full Blown turbo kit).

The wife has approved for most of this to be done to her car... as soon as my car is "done". Poor woman thinks project cars have a completed state.

Throw on a turbo / a few bolt-ons for added power.

I would then replace the wheels/tires with something a bit bigger and stickier, and of course replace with better brakes.

That might hit about $10k, without me looking up real prices. Maybe a couple grand left, with which I would upgrade the suspension I think.

Kinja'd!!! MtrRider Just Wants Doritos > shpuker
12/08/2013 at 23:11

Kinja'd!!!0

Exactly. I figure for $10K, work on the cars strengths rather than its weaknesses (power). A turbo would eat up most of the budget and unless you're building a drift car the stock wheels and tires won't do.

Kinja'd!!! aquila121 > E30Joe drives a Subaru
12/08/2013 at 23:27

Kinja'd!!!0

I'd go with that kit, a mild supercharger, and the rest (probably going over-budget) on wheels [PRF1s], tires, brakes, and suspension.

Kinja'd!!! shpuker > MtrRider Just Wants Doritos
12/09/2013 at 01:14

Kinja'd!!!0

Eh, I figure with the cost being just the kit (around 4-5k) and the installation being done by me. Add in $500 or so for a good dyno tune and have around $4k left over for wheels tires and suspension.

Kinja'd!!! MtrRider Just Wants Doritos > shpuker
12/09/2013 at 01:20

Kinja'd!!!0

That's all a turbo costs? I was figuring at least a grand more than that. Well maybe it would be a good idea then. Although I stand by my NA preference for the car, and think a NA build would be cooler than a turbo.

12/09/2013 at 01:35

Kinja'd!!! MtrRider Just Wants Doritos > shpuker
12/09/2013 at 01:51

Kinja'd!!!1

You're still looking at $6k total to have it installed as most people wouldn't attempt turbocharging their own car. If you can do it, that's fantastic you probably just saved a thousand dollars.

Kinja'd!!! Justino6969 > shpuker
12/09/2013 at 16:34

Rocket Bunny, Coilovers, Turbo, tires. That's probably a good $10,000. If I had more then add wider wheels.
